HSA Safety Alert: Working on Fragile Roofs

In the past five years there has been a large increase in the number of fatalities involving working on fragile roofs. From 2011 to 2015 there have been 12 fatalities associated with roof work.

The Health and Safety Authority have issued a Safety Alert to generate awareness when carrying out this type of work. Fragile roofing material may be classified as; Perspex Sheeting, Glass (including wired glass) or Asbestos Cement Sheeting. There is an amended code of practice for safety in roof work which came into operation on the 16th of May 2016. This document is very detailed and gives clear lines of responsibilities on all duty holders (Client, designer, PSDP, PSCS, Contractor and Workers).
