When you work as a Construction Manager or Supervisor, you’re responsible for the safety of your team and knowing how to safeguard them properly will keep everyone safe and give you peace of mind.

We offer two training courses for Managers, Supervisors and Foremen in the construction industry, IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Managers and IOSH Supervisor Construction Safety. Choosing the right course for you means aligning your responsibilities and roles with the most appropriate option, and our experienced team can talk you through this if you are still not sure.

Here’s our quick guide to help you make the decision:

What is IOSH?

IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) is a Chartered body, and the largest membership organisation for health and safety professionals worldwide. IOSH providers such as ASM offer internationally recognised certification in health and safety for professionals.

The nature of the construction industry means that there are high level risks involved and many of the workplace accidents in Ireland each year occur on construction sites. This makes IOSH training essential for anyone who is responsible for maintaining safety on construction sites, be it supervisors or foremen, and we are here to provide top quality training for you and your team.

IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers:

IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers is a comprehensive four-day course for those who manage or oversee the risks associated with safety, health and the environment on a construction site. This course, formerly known as IOSH Managing Safely in Construction, is designed to give construction site managers the expertise they need to raise and maintain the standards of health and safety in their workplace and safeguard their workforce.

The course includes exploring the legal responsibilities of the managerial role and managing the environment and the safety risks within it. It’s designed to give a comprehensive understanding of the legal and environmental aspects of this responsible role and is suitable for those with relevant management experience or for managers who are overseeing large projects.

IOSH Supervisor Construction Safety

IOSH Supervisor Construction Safety is a one-day interactive training course, designed to provide construction site supervisors with all the information they need to take on responsibility for safeguarding their construction site and employees to comply with Health and Safety legislation.

The course consists of 7.5 hours of guided learning and a thirty-minute assessment, which includes training in supervisory responsibilities, hazard identification and risk assessment, with a focus on safety procedures and supervision. It is suitable for those with supervisory experience and supervisors managing daily site activities and aims to develop an understanding of the duties and requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act and the regulations that apply to construction sites as well as their practical implementations.

Which IOSH Safety Course Should I Choose?

The training opportunities you take up should be aligned with your role and the responsibilities it brings, as well as furthering your career development.

If you are working in a foreman or supervisory capacity, the IOSH Supervisor Construction Safety training course is ideal to give you a basic understanding of safety procedures and supervision that will enable you to meet your responsibilities both legally and practically.

If you are working as a manager in the longer term, or for larger projects, the IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Managers may be a more appropriate choice, giving you a wider knowledge base and a deeper understanding of the legal and environmental aspects of your role.
