HAZOP Assessments
ASM Group carry out HAZOP assessments for a number of clients across the pharmaceutical and manufacturing industry to ensure legal compliance and practical application of statutory requirements. We will work with you and your team to find the best approach to this process, building in consultancy services and training to ensure that you are exceeding the standard requirements for your industry.
Our experienced Safety Officers are well placed to advise your organisation on the requirements of the legislation that governs your industry, and we can perform a full health and safety audit to highlight any areas of concerns that could put your business at risk.
What is HAZOP?
A HAZOP Assessment is a highly structured means of analysing a system and identifying potential problems with it. This is an essential part of risk management that involves reviewing processes to uncover potential hazards and assigning actions to mitigate the risks.
HAZOP aims to protect your workers and your business, and the process follows these steps:1. Identify a team to carry out the HAZOP. This usually involves a team leader and other members who will often have different areas of expertise, enabling them to work together to provide different perspectives and identify the risks and possible deviations from designs that could cause problems.2. Identify processes. This is a technical stage in which all processes are identified, and this requires familiarity with the process/piping and instrumentation diagram as well as the nodes. A node is a section of the process, which can be individually reviewed.3. Define parameters. In this stage, deviations are determined and guide words are selected, enabling the team to identify when deviations breach acceptable parameters or safe operating limits.4. Identify controls and set out safety monitoring. This step relates to the strategies employed or suggested to mitigate the identified hazards. Where processes and production are ongoing, this step also establishes monitoring to ensure that safeguards are being followed effectively.5. Share results and feedback. This step improves safety throughout your organisation as feedback is shared and safeguards are disseminated to staff. This may involve training or further safety protocol where relevant.Employer Responsibilities
As an employer, you are responsible for protecting the health and safety of your employees and any other people you work with. This will include maintaining a safe working environment and providing safe equipment, and regular risk assessments and audits are essential to maintain high standards. HAZOP is a key way to protect your business and we can discuss your unique requirements and tailor our services to suit you.
Why Use HAZOP?
HAZOP Assessments can be very helpful to your organisation, giving a thorough insight into your processes and production and streamlining these to keep your workplace safer. Conducting a HAZOP Assessment means that you will reduce the chance of accidents and incidents that could be dangerous and costly to your business and your reputation. The assessment process will also help you to identify where your organisation could be more efficient and where you could potentially make savings.Investing in your health and safety procedures and conducting thorough processes such as HAZOP will demonstrate that your organisation takes safety seriously and that you are committed to protecting your team, your customers and your business.
