About the Working at Heights Training Course

Course Duration: 1/2 day

Falls from height result in many fatalities and injuries in the workplace. Work at Height Regulations places a duty on employers, the self-employed, and any person that controls the work of others to ensure a safe system of work while performing working at height activities.

ASM Group runs regular working at height training courses in Cork at SMA Wilton Community Centre, Wilton.

This course is suitable for personnel who are required to work at height in course of their work duties.

On completion of this training participants will be able to:
  • Fully understand the principles of fall arrest and work restraint.
  • Be capable of fitting a working at height helmet and fall arrest harness.
  • Be capable in the usage of basic fall arrest and restraint system.
  • Legislation & Regulations around working at height
  • Risk assessment and hazard management
  • Prevention – fall restraint and fall arrest
  • Inspection of harnesses/lanyards/anchorage.
  • Selection and fitting of a harness.
  • Requirement for work platforms
  • Roof work – fragile surfaces and edge protection
  • Fall protection – individual and collective measure’s
  • Safe use of ladders
  • Recording and maintenance of working at height equipment

What is a working at height training course?
ASM Group’s working at height training course provides anyone who works at height in the workplace with information on how to manage height safely. It is essential safety training for those who work at height, as well as the self-employed, and employers who are responsible for the safety of those working at height.

Why do a working at height training course?
Falls from height result in many injuries and fatalities in the workplace. If you are an employer in an industry which involves working at height; if you are self-employed in these industries; or if you are an employee taking part in high level activities, it is vital that you participate in a working at height training course. Work at Height Regulations require this training, but it is also essential to ensure the safety of all those involved.

What do you learn on a working at height training course?
On completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Fully understand the principles of fall arrest and work restraint.
  • Be capable of selecting and fitting a working at height helmet and fall arrest harness.
  • Be able to use a basic fall arrest and restraint system.
  • Know the legislation and regulations around working at height
  • Be proficient in risk assessment and hazard management
  • Inspect harnesses, lanyard and anchorage for safety compliance
  • Understand the requirements for work platforms at height
  • Plan roof work safely, including working with fragile surfaces and edge protection
  • Plan fall protection, including individual and collective measures
  • Use ladders safely and in compliance with regulations
  • Maintain working at height equipment to a high safety standard

 

How long does a working at height training course take?
This course takes half a day, can accommodate 10 participants, and is assessed by both a written and practical test.
